Market West Grand Opening: Celebrating a New Era in Downtown Wilmington

On April 3, Market West in downtown Wilmington celebrated its official grand opening with a vibrant event.

BPG Founder Chris Buccini, Mayor John Carney, stakeholders, community leaders, tenants, and residents gathered to celebrate Market West and mark the completion of Phase I and Phase II of The Standard—a 450,000-square-foot office-to-residential conversion of the former Nemours Building. Market West is a dynamic mixed-use development that reimagines the former DuPont headquarters in Downtown Wilmington.

“Market West is a project over 25 years in the making and was the first of many firsts for us when we acquired the Nemours Building in 1999. It marked our first development in Delaware, our first purchase of surplus corporate real estate, our first residential project, and our first office-to-residential conversion. In many ways, it was the beginning of BPG itself,” said Chris Buccini.  “Today Market West brings us full circle. It’s not only a testament to how far we’ve come as a company, but also a reflection of how far our city has come since 1999.”

Now home to 244 (94 more units to come in Phase III) new luxury apartments, Market West sets a new standard for urban living in Wilmington. Guests at the grand opening toured The Standard, starting on the 10th floor and progressing through beautifully renovated units and new amenities. Highlights included the rooftop deck, billiards room, resident lounge, and indoor fireplace, all showcasing the blend of comfort and luxury that defines living at Market West.

During the event, guests were encouraged to explore the building’s commercial tenants, including The Mill coworking space, Future First Gaming, and Theatre N, a nonprofit cinema that brings culture and community to the heart of Wilmington.

Catering and booths from other Market West tenants, including Currie, Hair, Skin, and Nails, Casa Nonna, Le Cavalier, Spark’d Creative Pastry, and DE.CO Food Hall, kept guests energized throughout the event.

The grand opening marked an important milestone in Market West’s role in Wilmington’s downtown revitalization. The development is quickly becoming a destination where people can live, work, and play.
